Custom Home Bar Storage in the Quad Cities

A home bar that is designed looks and works differently from one assembled out of a bar cart and a spare cabinet. Custom bar storage gives bottles, glassware, and wine a purposeful home and finishes it to match the rest of the house.

Comfort Concepts QCA designs and installs custom home bar built-ins throughout the Quad Cities, from basement entertainment rooms to butler pantries and living room walls.

Built-in wine niche with bottle storage

The bar counter

The foundation of a home bar is the work surface. Custom bar counters are designed at bar height, 41 to 43 inches, rather than standard 36-inch countertop height, which allows standing, bar-style service. Popular counter materials are quartz for durability and low maintenance, butcher block for a warm classic feel, and laminate in high-use areas.

Bottles, glassware, and wine

Spirits store best upright at ambient temperature and away from direct sunlight. A cabinet section sized for standard bottle heights keeps the collection organized, and backlit shelving can turn it into a display.

Glass-front doors above the bar keep glasses dust-free while leaving them visible. Stemware can hang from a rack under a shelf so glasses are not stacked. For wine, horizontal racks keep cork-finished bottles stored on their side, and our accessory range includes pull-out wine racks and wine glass storage.

Refrigeration and a sink

A beverage refrigerator or undercounter wine cooler can be built into the cabinetry and finished flush with it, covering wine, beer, mixers, and garnishes. A wet bar adds a small prep sink, typically 12 to 18 inches, so water, ice, and glass rinsing do not require a trip to the kitchen.

Where a bar fits

Common locations are finished basements, butler pantries, living room entertainment walls, and covered outdoor entertaining areas. Pantry sections and entertainment centers can also hold a bar cabinet.

Finishes and project process

Wood veneer is the finish to discuss if you want to match existing millwork or stain the bar to a warmer tone. Thermally fused melamine is durable and easy to wipe clean. Solid wood accents suit doors, drawer fronts, and trim.

Your free consultation takes place at the Bettendorf showroom or in your home. We then provide a design with a visual preview and an itemized quote, and our in-house team installs the bar. Before you meet, measure the wall or corner, note where plumbing or power exists, and make a list of the bottles, glasses, and appliances the bar needs to hold.

Questions to settle before design

A few decisions shape a bar more than any finish. How many people will you usually serve at once, and will they stand at the counter or sit? Do you want spirits displayed or tucked behind doors? Will wine be stored on its side in racks, in a cooler, or both? Is there a pantry or entertainment center nearby that could share the bar cabinet instead of building a separate one?

Think about daily use too. If the bar is in a basement, consider how guests will reach water and ice, which is where a small sink earns its place. If the bar shares a wall with a living room, glass-front doors and backlit shelving help it read as part of the room. We work through these choices with you at the consultation, so the design reflects how you actually entertain.
